Head Start Pograms

Join KNPB In Supporting Early Childhood Education

Research shows that investing in Early Childhood Education benefits everyone. It has lasting effects on the child, the family, and society as a whole. Children tend to be more successful in school if they have participated in a quality Early Childhood Educational program.

Head Start is a high quality preschool program that focuses on education, nutrition, and family engagement for children from low income and at risk families. The program is designed to serve children in foster care, children in poverty or homeless children, and children with disabilities — at no cost to families.

During the previous two school years, (2014-15 and 2015-16) KNPB was able to present nearly 600 educational workshops that resulted in more than 7,000 interactions with children, aged 3-5, in Head Start programs. These engaging, interactive workshops were presented on a bi-monthly basis. Due to a loss of funding, the service was discontinued. The teachers relayed that they, along with the children and parents were disappointed to not have regular KNPB facilitator visits.

With grant funding from Newman’s Own Foundation, KNPB has the opportunity to continue to provide Ready To Learn workshops for 3-5 year olds at Head Start programs in area schools and community centers. The engaging lessons are aligned with Nevada PreK standards and provide literacy opportunities, hands-on experiences, and parent engagement. Lesson assessments show that at least 80% of the students demonstrate an understanding of the objective. Our workshops are designed to be a unique and special way for children to learn! Over the course of a year, 425 children will be served.

With a matching grant from Newman's Own Foundation, that number will be double. Please take advantage of this opportunity to double your gift to KNPB around this key initiative by calling 775.784.1900 or give online through our online donation form
