JOB SUMMARY:
The Education Manager is responsible for the management of Curiosity Classroom workshop facilitators, which includes training, modeling instruction, assisting with technology and monitoring the Curiosity Classroom schedule of workshops on a daily basis. Primarily, the Education Manager is responsible for fulfillment of teacher/facilitator requests and works closely with the other PBS Reno Education Manager, Volunteer Coordinator and interns to make sure all workshop kits and student materials are replenished and ready for immediate use by facilitators. With assistance and direction from the Director and VP of Education, the Education Manager duties will include helping with facilitator recruitment, hiring, training, periodic monitoring and weekly correspondence.
The Education Manager uses their experience teaching young children, their awareness of good teaching practices, and their educational content knowledge to assist with writing curriculum and developing new Curiosity Classroom workshop kits and developing new Education Services content. Additionally, the Education Manager works closely with the other Manager, Director and VP of Education to oversee rural community Curiosity Classroom implementation and expansion.
The Education Manager will rely on good time management and foresight to keep the Education Department responsive to facilitator and community needs. The Education Manager continuously works to increase awareness of the Education department and to expand its services by putting forth a positive perspective and passion for PBS and PBS Reno which includes: PBS Reno Writers Contest, Reading Buddies programs, PreK-4th grade Curiosity Classroom, Family Engagement, STEM Works digital shorts, PBS KIDS, and PBS LearningMedia.
This position requires exceptional teaching skills, the ability to be a leader among teachers, and to have positive communication skills to keep the daily/weekly communications with co-workers, facilitators and teachers, clear and concise. The Education Manager possesses positive interpersonal skills, the ability to lead others when needed, and has the willingness to continue teaching and learning for personal growth.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A bachelor’s degree in education or related field required.
- Successful teaching experience in Pre-K to 5th grade required.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment.
- Self-directed with the ability to work with minimal supervision and proactively meet deadlines.
- Familiarity with Pre-K to 12 education system, academic standards, and educational technology.
- Familiarity with online learning and professional development.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Travel within PBS Reno viewing area to current Education outreach locations and to future locations for Curiosity Classroom expansion.
- Manages Curiosity Classroom workshop facilitators
- Trains, models instruction, and assists with technology for the facilitators
- Monitors the CC schedule of workshops on a daily basis
- Responsible for fulfillment of teacher/facilitator requests
- Works closely with the other Education Manager, Volunteer Coordinator and interns to make sure workshop kits and student materials are replenished and ready for immediate use
