PBS Reno Hires Katey Lundy to Expand Education Services

RENO, NV (October 26, 2022) — PBS Reno has expanded its team with the hire of Katey Lundy, who will serve as the station’s Educator Manager II and will enhance the station’s reach into local classrooms in northern and central Nevada.

Lundy is a former elementary school teacher from the Washoe County School District and Mater Academy of Northern Nevada (MANN). She will assist with the deployment of thousands of PBS Reno Curiosity Classroom Workshops in Washoe County, Carson City, Douglas County, Elko County, Lyon County, Humboldt County, and White Pine County.

“I’m so thankful to have the opportunity to join PBS Reno as the Education Manager II,” Lundy said. “I call this a dream job as not only do I get to work with amazing co-workers, volunteers, and facilitators, but I also get to take part in the Curiosity Classroom Workshops. These workshops provide an engaging educational experience for students in Pre-k through 4th grade.”

During the 2021-2022 school year, PBS Reno conducted a record-number 3,740 Curiosity Classroom workshops. PBS Reno’s team of 35+ certified facilitators interacted with 71,941 students and distributed 26,972 free books to students. When compared to the 2020-2021 school year, the numbers reflect a 35% increase in workshops, a 48% increase in student participants, and a 47% increase in books distributed.

The addition of Lundy to the team will ensure PBS Reno can meet this growing need for free educational materials in local classrooms.

“Katey is a fantastic addition to PBS Reno Education Services,” said Nancy Maldonado, PBS Reno Vice President of Education. “Her experience teaching children, her awareness of good teaching practices, and her educational content knowledge perfectly compliment the needs of our station and the growing demand of our services in local classrooms.”
