JOYful Moments Now on PBS Reno’s YouTube Channel
RENO, NV (FEB 23, 2023) — Creating colorful ice sculptures, homemade banana ice cream, and a galaxy in a bottle: these are some of the fun activities from JOYful Moments– a digital-first series of interactive videos for kids available on the PBS Reno YouTube channel.
Each short video features Joy Foremaster, PBS Reno Director of Education, who shows young viewers how to have fun at home with everyday objects. From making Northern Lights art (using broken crayons) to making a do-it-yourself (DIY) pulley or tasty fruit leather, JOYful Moments are fun ways for families to spend time together, utilizing materials that are low-cost, or already in the home.
“JOYful Moments is so awesome because they are short, interactive creative activities that are fun to do,” said Nancy Maldonado, PBS Reno Vice President of Education. “From the very beginning of the video, you know what materials you will need and what the finished project looks like. Also, having the recording on your phone allows you to re-play it as many times as you need or to pause it intermittently. My grandson and I made the Daniel Tiger puppet from the very first JOYful Moments and we were hooked!”
“My 8-year-old and I enjoy watching JOYful Moments on Facebook,” said Jenny Wagner, a Sparks, Nevada resident. “I love the different projects she does. Such great things to do and I love to pass along the info to my friends who homeschool their children.”
The series can be viewed on the PBS Reno YouTube Channel or the PBS Reno Facebook and Instagram platforms. A new video is posted each Saturday at 10am. You are encouraged to subscribe to the PBS Reno YouTube Channel to receive notifications of new posted content from PBS Reno, including locally produced series Wild Nevada, ARTEFFECTS, and JOYful Moments!
“I love being a part of JOYful Moments,” said Foremaster. “PBS has such great activities to do with kids which are inexpensive, fun, and engaging. I am so lucky to get to share them out with everyone.”
In addition to JOYful Moments, Foremaster is also the host of Story Time with Joy, a series of videos featuring Joy reading a children’s story. Foremaster started the series during the COVID-19 Pandemic as a way to reach out to young people with incredible books. Foremaster tapped into her creativity even further by utilizing clever props, costumes, and accessories she already had at home to accompany each story. Her approach to Story Time with Joy has become the incredible foundation for JOYful Moments. Foremaster created more than 100 episodes of Story Time with Joy, which can be found on the PBS Reno Facebook page.
