PBS Reno Hires Community Partnership Coordinator and Broadcast Engineering Technician

Brooke Goodnight: Community Partnership Coordinator of PBS Reno
AJ Simpson: Broadcast Engineering Technician of PBS Reno

RENO, NV (JAN 27, 2023)PBS Reno has welcomed two new employees to its Communicator and Telly Award-earning team. PBS Reno hired Brooke Goodnight for the role of Community Partnership Coordinator. Goodnight started with PBS Reno on January 9, 2023. The community-owned public television station also hired AJ Simpson for the role of Broadcast Engineering Technician. Simpson started in December 2022.

Goodnight brings to PBS Reno financial experience from a variety of institutions, including Greater Nevada Credit Union and OneMain Financial. She found her love for communications and community partnerships while studying at the University of Nevada, Reno.

“I am thrilled to be a part of such a dynamic team here at PBS Reno and am looking forward to absorbing their knowledge while implementing my own,” Goodnight said. “It touches my heart knowing that the work I do will be aiding both my community and peers. I would like to extend huge thanks to my incredible coworkers as they have been so patient and welcoming in this new journey.”

As PBS Reno Community Partnership Coordinator, Goodnight will secure trades and additional funding from corporations that support PBS Reno. The funding will allow PBS Reno to provide educational outreach in local classrooms through its Curiosity Classroom Workshops, along with producing award-earning local productions including Wild Nevada and ARTEFFECTS.

“We are excited to have Brooke join our Development Team as the new Community Partnership Coordinator,” said Diane Barrett, PBS Reno Community Partnership Director. “Her background working with clients at GNCU and OneMain Financial lends itself well to collaborating with corporate partners here at the station. This is the first time PBS Reno will have two dedicated full-time roles to work with corporate underwriters. I’m certain Brooke will help us manage these partnerships and grow our relationships in the community.”

Simpson has a strong background in digital art, lighting design and operation, along with a deep appreciation for computers and robotics – plus a love for outdoor adventure! He moved to the East Coast in 2009 from Kenya, where he grew up. Due to a desire to live closer to a mountainous region, Simpson moved to Reno in 2021.

“I am very excited to join PBS Reno and work with such a welcoming and friendly group,” said Simpson. “It has been great learning what goes on behind the scenes of broadcasting and getting to meet the teams involved. I’m eager to learn more!”

Simpson is part of the PBS Reno Engineering team that includes master control operators who work closely with PBS Reno programmers and other programmers across the nation to ensure a seamless broadcast signal.

“We are excited to have AJ join PBS Reno as a Broadcast Engineering Technician,” said David Medow, PBS Reno Master Control Supervisor. “AJ will be a great addition to our Engineering team as we strive to Entertain Your Curiosity.”
