PBS Reno Education Services Receives
$15,000 Grant from the NV Energy Foundation
RENO, NV (MAY 5, 2023) — PBS Reno Education Services is honored to have received a $15,000 grant from the NV Energy Foundation that will enhance the station’s Curiosity Classroom Workshop program and many more opportunities to reach local students and their families.
The PBS Reno Curiosity Classroom Workshops are completely free for students to experience and for teachers to schedule in their curriculums. While literacy is a cornerstone of the program, age-appropriate robotics dominate many of the workshops, delighting children from different grades with technology’s potential. One goal is to give each student multiple educational experiences with a variety of robots before they reach 4th grade.
“NV Energy’s financial support is coming at a time when demand for PBS Reno Curiosity Classroom Workshops is at a new all-time high,” said Nancy Maldonado, PBS Reno VP of Education. “PBS Reno Education Services provides Curiosity Classroom STEM-based workshops to students in Pre-K through 4th grade, which include high-quality video clips, a read aloud, and a fun hands-on activity. From October to March during the 2022-2023 school year, PBS Reno has already presented 4,295 workshops to 83,909 students across seven northern Nevada counties. We are grateful for the financial support we receive from the NV Energy Foundation which allows us to meet the high demand for our services.”
“We proudly continue to support PBS Reno’s Curiosity Classroom program, because we understand the critical importance of early education for future learning,” said Lisa Harris, NV Energy Community Relations Lead. “The NV Energy Foundation is proud of our longstanding partnership with PBS Reno and the thousands of children this program has benefited over the years.”
