GLOSSARY

STEM — STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and math. It represents an interdisciplinary and integrated approach to gathering hands-on experience and applying “real-world” knowledge. People who work in STEM fields use knowledge in science, engineering, technology, or math to understand the world around us and to solve problems.

BiomechanicsThe study of biological systems, particularly their structure and function using methods derived from mechanics.

RadiologyBranch of medicine using radiation for the diagnosis and treatment of disease.

TechnicianA person skilled in a specific task.

PediatricThe branch of medicine that involves the medical care of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults.

OrthopedicThe branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system.

Congenital anomalyAlso called birth defects, these conditions develop prenatally and may be identified before or at birth, or later in life.

AstigmatismA common imperfection in the curvature of the eye that causes blurred distance and near vision.
