When you think of a remarkable and compassionate person, educator, nonprofit, or local business that are making a difference in northern Nevada and northeastern California, who comes to mind? Give them the opportunity to receive the recognition they deserve, while highlighting their work in their communities, by nominating them in one of the following five categories:

Extraordinary Student
This award recognizes a student who has distinguished themselves through their inspiration, dedication, motivation, or acts of kindness regardless of grade or age.

Extraordinary Individual
This award recognizes an individual who has distinguished themselves in northern Nevada through their inspiration, dedication, motivation, or acts of kindness.

Extraordinary Educator
This award recognizes an educator who has distinguished themselves in their community; by going above and beyond the regular duties of an educator to truly make an impact on a school, district, college, or community.

Extraordinary Community Group
This award recognizes an organization that has offered outstanding service, guidance, knowledge, emotional or physical support, and/or mentorship to their community.

Extraordinary Local Business

“PBS Reno recognizes that there are many wonderful people in our region, and we want to celebrate them,” said Diane Barrett, PBS Reno Community Partnership Director. “We encourage everyone in our community to nominate someone who makes a difference, especially those who don’t always receive the recognition they deserve.”

Eligible nominees must be located in PBS Reno’s northern Nevada and northeastern California viewing areas. Eligible community groups and businesses must have on-the-ground operations in PBS Reno’s northern Nevada and northeastern California viewing areas. Businesses do not have to be locally owned.

Following an internal selection process, nominations will be narrowed down to three finalists in each category. The community can vote weekly online beginning July 1st through July 31st.

The winners will be announced on September 20th at the PBS Reno Spotlight Awards & Auction. PBS Reno will also honor Rick Reviglio, President and General Manager of Western Nevada Supply, as the 2024 Extraordinary Philanthropist. Born to Jack and Rosalie Reviglio, Rick was raised in northern Nevada where he grew up immersed in the family business. His upbringing shaped him into a passionate Nevadan and patriotic American, and to this day, he strongly believes that everyone has a duty to serve. It is this intense passion to serve that makes up his character and pushes him to lead others. Rick lives a life of giving inspired by his father who said, “When we meet our creator, he is not going to ask us what kind of house we lived in, what kind of car we drove or how many toys we had. He is going to ask us: What did you do to make a difference in your fellow man?

“For years, Rick Reviglio has devoted himself to many causes that impact the lives of the less fortunate and especially the lives of children throughout the region,” said Emma Glenn, PBS Reno Vice President of Development. “His father Jack inspired him to make things better for those who lack opportunities; in particular, extracurricular activities for children. We are honored to acknowledge Rick and the many causes near and dear to his heart. We look forward to celebrating Rick as our Extraordinary Philanthropist during the 2024 PBS Reno Spotlight Awards & Auction.”

The PBS Reno Spotlight Awards & Auction has recognized more than 60 local businesses, nonprofits, educators, and individuals since 2020:
