Spring Has Sprung at Sierra Nevada Ballet with Exciting Events!

Spring is a time for new beginnings, and this year Spring is a time to celebrate at Sierra Nevada Ballet!

SNB began celebrating Spring on April 3, 2024, by officially moving into our fabulous new, large “state of the art” home at 500 East Moana Lane in Reno, and it is a joyous experience for both the SNB Company and the SNB Academy. As part of the celebration, SNB got to host the monthly Reno Arts Consortium meeting on April 18 and share our amazing brand-new space with other arts organizations in our wonderful community. Arts groups got a tour of the newly renovated SNB facility and then met and enjoyed refreshments together in Steinway’s lovely recital hall.

On April 27, ANB went on tour to San Francisco to perform as part of the Bay Area Dance Festival, Dancing in the Park SF. The Mark Foehringer Dance Project presents an annual one-day, admission-free, outdoor event in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park featuring over 20 dance groups including professional companies, pre-professional programs, and SF community groups.

SNB performed an excerpt of the fabulous Dracula ballet choreographed by Associate Artistic Director Ananda Bena-Weber. The company was honored to be invited to perform as part of this wonderful SF event.

On April 20, SNB performed our annual Brew, Brats and Ballet Program at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City and will perform the BBB program again in Reno on May 3, 4, and 5 at the Reno Little Theater. This year SNB will be collaborating for this event with our partner in the Northern Nevada Performing Arts Collective, the Steinway Society Music School, and the Steinway Piano Gallery. This exciting BBB eclectic program features short works by eight different choreographers performed by the SNB company and two talented pianists.

On May 4 from 12:30pm to 3pm, SNB will hold an open community audition at SNB’s new home in Reno for male and female children (age 3 and up) and adults with at least one year of ballet experience. The audition is for SNB’s new summer production of Sleeping Beauty - A Fairy’s Tale that will be performed in Reno (Pioneer Center), Carson City (Carson City Community Center), and Lake Tahoe (Sand Harbor Amphitheater on the Lake) in July and August. This new updated version of the classic ballet will feature a large cast made up of the full SNB company of professional dancers supplemented by dance students from throughout the community.

On June 2, SNB, together with Northern Nevada Performing Arts Collective partners, Steinway Society Music School, Sierra School of Performing Arts, Sports and Performance Medicine and Satori Dance Wear, will present a free, open-to-the-public Grand Opening Performance Celebration Event at 500 E. Moana Lane, Reno. This free event will feature performances by all the members of the Collective including the SNB professional company; the SNB Academy; Sierra School of Performing Arts; the Steinway Society Music School; Sports and Performance Medicine; and there will  a booth with Dance Wear from Satori. The performance festivities will take place in the Monarch Room at SNB and end with a monster concert at Steinway featuring 10 Steinway pianists playing together in a circle with SNB dancers performing in the middle. This will be an Open House Event for the community to come visit, tour the facility, and share in a fun, entertaining experience. Events will go on throughout the day with refreshments and mingling from 1pm to 2pm; performance from 2pm to 3pm; refreshments and mingling from 3pm to 4pm, and another performance from 4pm to 5pm.

Spring is a time to celebrate new life, and we are doing just that at SNB!
