PBS Reno Launches Better Together Challenge
New Challenge Features Communities In Schools of Western Nevada and NV Energy Foundation

RENO, NV (November 29, 2023) — A new Better Together Challenge is underway and PBS Reno is inviting everyone in the community to support two local non-profits at the same time.

If 200 or more new members join PBS Reno by making a donation in any amount by January 1, 2024, the NV Energy Foundation will provide a generous gift of $10,000 each to Communities In Schools of Western Nevada and PBS Reno. You can become a member of PBS Reno by calling 775.600.0550 or by visiting the PBS Reno website. Donation options include contributing a single amount or a monthly sustainer option; the latter allows members to spread out their gift and provide a reliable source of financial support throughout the year.

“The Better Together Challenge is a wonderful way to bring awareness to organizations doing great work in our community and helps our generous donors’ donations to go twice as far while supporting our mission to Entertain Your Curiosity,” said Emma Glenn, PBS Reno Vice President of Development. “We are grateful for our partnership with the NV Energy Foundation as we work to benefit Communities In Schools of Western Nevada during this season of giving. We plan to use our $10,000 gift to directly benefit our Curiosity Classroom Workshops which reach tens of thousands of students across northern Nevada each year.”

“The NV Energy Foundation is proud to support PBS Reno and Communities In Schools of Western Nevada through the Better Together Challenge and we hope those in the community take advantage of the opportunity to support two great organizations with one donation,” said Ryan Bellows, NV Energy Vice President of Government and External Relations. “We prioritize support to nonprofits and causes most important to NV Energy customers and our community which is why education and youth development is one of our pillars of giving at the NV Energy Foundation. Over the years, we’ve supported Communities In Schools with more than $750,000 in support and have given out more than $2 million in scholarships to Nevada students, among other programs and initiatives. We look forward to continued support for the communities where our employees live and work.”

“Communities In Schools of Western Nevada is honored to be chosen as the NV Energy Foundation’s partner for PBS Reno’s “Better Together” initiative,” said Nicole Willis-Grimes, Executive Director of CIS of Western Nevada. “This is an amazing opportunity to raise awareness about our organization as well as help PBS Reno’s membership drive. If we’re fortunate enough to receive the $10,000 matching gift from NV Energy’s Foundation, we will use the funds to support the nearly 9,000 students we serve in 13 Title I schools throughout Washoe County. We have co-located site coordinators at each of our school campuses who, through the development of caring and trusted relationships, work to remove barriers that threaten student success. We also provide on-campus resource rooms where all students and their families at that school can receive food, hygiene products, clothing, and school supplies – no questions asked. Partnerships between private and nonprofit organizations like PBS Reno are critical in supporting the important work being done to help improve the quality of living in our community.”

This is the fourth successful Better Together Challenge from PBS Reno. In June 2020, the Nell J. Redfield Foundation provided $10,000 each to PBS Reno and Food Bank of Northern Nevada. During the 2020 holiday season, Nevada Gold Mines provided $10,000 each to PBS Reno and Eddy House. During the 2021 holiday season, Raley’s O-N-E Market provided $10,000 each to PBS Reno and The Children’s Cabinet.

Thanks to the community’s generosity, PBS Reno surpassed its goal of welcoming 200 new PBS Reno members during each challenge.
