PBS Reno Hires New Education Coordinators
RENO, NV (OCTOBER 10, 2024) — PBS Reno has hired Gabriela Villanueva and Darius Fiore for the roles of Education Coordinators.
PBS Reno delivered 6,959 Curiosity Classroom workshops and 45,692 free books during the 2023-2024 school year, thanks to its team of 50+ trained and accredited facilitators, a growing demand from teachers, more than 1,800 volunteer hours, and the necessary grant acquisition and additional funding that make it all possible. The addition of Villanueva and Fiore will ensure PBS Reno can meet this growing need for free educational materials in local classrooms in the 2024-2025 school year and beyond.
Villanueva earned her Bachelor of Science in Human Development & Family Science from the University of Nevada, Reno and her Associate of Arts in Human Development and Family Studies from Truckee Meadows Community College. She most recently served as a Subsidy Specialist with The Children’s Cabinet, where she provided case management services to local families. In 2023, Villanueva completed her internship with PBS Reno, where she prepared educational materials and assisted with delivering in-classroom workshops to students.
“From watching PBS KIDS every morning before school, to experiencing my professional internship here for university, I feel like I've come full circle with an organization so near and dear to me,” said Villanueva. “It has been such a positive environment and welcoming space, and I am so excited to officially join the PBS Reno team full time.”
Fiore earned his Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from the University of Nevada, Reno. As a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity he served as Treasurer, managed social media accounts, and was responsible for helping members maintain high GPAs. Fiore is a community-driven anthropologist whose specialty and mission is to meet and assist people from various walks of life.
“I’m so grateful and excited to join PBS Reno and contribute to an amazing team of good people doing good work,” said Fiore. “Everyone at the station has been so kind and welcoming while I learn the ropes, and I can't wait to help achieve our education goals and make a positive impact on our community.”
“We are so happy to have Gaby and Darius join our Education team,” said Nancy Maldonado, PBS Reno Vice President of Education. “They both are enthusiastic and fantastic to work with. Their organization and efficiency with our systems offer great support and productivity for our team.”
