PBS Reno Receives $15,000 Grant from NV Energy Foundation
Teachers are encouraged to schedule a free workshop at education@pbsreno.org
RENO, NV (SEP 2, 2025) – PBS Reno is thrilled to receive a $15,000 grant from the NV Energy Foundation for the station’s Curiosity Classroom workshop program that reaches more than 125,000 local students in their classrooms each school year.
“We are very grateful for NV Energy’s continued support for our Curiosity Classroom program, especially at this time,” said Nancy Maldonado, PBS Reno Vice President of Education. “Thank you for keeping our STEM workshops strong for the young learners in our community.”
PBS Reno is working to mitigate a loss of $1.3 million in federal funding. This generous grant from NV Energy Foundation will help to sustain the Curiosity Classroom program, ensuring that every teacher’s request for a workshop is met and that every child can experience an educational STEM lesson from PBS Reno.
During the 2024-2025 school year, PBS Reno provided:
- 6,794 Curiosity Classroom workshops
- 904 robotic-specific workshops
- 47,314 free books
- Interactions with 128,087 student participants
PBS Reno Curiosity Classroom workshops are completely free! Teachers are encouraged to schedule a workshop during the 2025-2026 school year. Workshop facilitators currently visit schools in nine counties: Washoe, Carson City, Elko, Douglas, Humboldt, Lyon, Storey, White Pine, and El Dorado County in South Lake Tahoe. Each workshop includes a short video, hands-on activity, a read-aloud, and a lesson that aligns with state education standards and a variety of curriculums embraced by teachers.
“Supporting education and inspiring curiosity in young minds is central to our mission at the NV Energy Foundation,” said Ryan Bellows, NV Energy Vice President, General Counsel and NV Energy Foundation Board Member. “We’re proud to invest in PBS Reno’s Curiosity Classroom program as we continue working together to build a brighter future for our communities.”
