GLOSSARY

STEM — STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and math. It represents an interdisciplinary and integrated approach to gathering hands-on experience and applying “real-world” knowledge. People who work in STEM fields use knowledge in science, engineering, technology, or math to understand the world around us and to solve problems.

Ambassador — a person who acts as a representative or promoter of a particular body or activity.

Aspire — direct one's hopes or ambitions towards achieving something.

Collaboration — the action of working with someone to produce something.

Community — a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals.

Diversity — the practice or quality of including or involving people from a range of different social and ethnic backgrounds and of different genders, sexual orientations, etc.

Equitable — fair and just, especially in a way that takes account of and seeks to address existing inequalities.

Employment — the action of giving work to someone.

Health Care — the organized provision of medical care to individuals or a community.

Initiative — an act or strategy intended to resolve a difficulty or improve a situation; a fresh approach to something.

Mental Health — a state of mental well-being that enables people to cope with the stresses of life, realize their abilities, learn and work well, and contribute to their community.

Nursing — the profession or practice of providing care for the sick and infirm.

Radiology — the science dealing with X-rays and other high-energy radiation, especially the use of such radiation for the diagnosis and treatment of disease.

Rural — in, relating to, or characteristic of the countryside rather than the town.

Scrubs — the sanitary clothing worn by physicians, nurses, dentists and other workers involved in patient care.

Shadow — accompany (someone) in their daily activities at work in order to gain experience at or insight into a job.

Social Worker — a person whose job is to help people in a particular area who have social disadvantages or personal problems.

Urban — in, relating to, or characteristic of a town or city, as opposed to the countryside or to a village.

Workforce — the people engaged in or available for work, either in a country or area or in a particular company or industry.

X-Ray — a type of medical imaging that uses radiation to take pictures of the inside of your body.
