Lumos & Associates are engineers and designers who collaborate on civil engineering projects.
STEM — STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and math. It represents an interdisciplinary and integrated approach to gathering hands-on experience and applying “real-world” knowledge. People who work in STEM fields use knowledge in science, engineering, technology, or math to understand the world around us and to solve problems.
Civil engineering — the branch of engineering concerned with the design and maintenance of roads, bridges, dams, and similar structures
Infrastructure — the basic physical and organizational structures and facilities (e.g. buildings, roads, power supplies) needed for the operation of a society or enterprise
Hydrology — the study of the distribution and movement of water both on and below the Earth's surface, as well as the impact of human activity on water availability and conditions
Hydraulics — the branch of science and technology concerned with the conveyance of liquids through pipes and channels, especially as a source of mechanical force or control
Spillway — a passage for surplus water from a dam
Hydraulic modeling — a method used to simulate and analyze the flow of fluids, particularly water, in various systems like pipes, rivers, and channels, using mathematical equations and computer software to predict behavior and aid in decision-making
Wastewater — water that has been used in the home, in a business, or as part of an industrial process
Material testing — the process of evaluating and determining the characteristics and behavior of materials under various conditions to assess their suitability for specific applications, ensuring reliability and performance
Fluid dynamics — the branch of mathematics and physics concerned with the description and study of the flow of liquids and gases
Water treatment — the process of purifying and making water suitable for various purposes, such as drinking, industrial use, or agriculture
