Extraordinary Community Group Award

This award recognizes an organization that has offered outstanding service, guidance, knowledge, emotional or physical support, and/or mentorship to their community. Eligible community groups must have on-the-ground operations in PBS Reno’s northern Nevada and northeastern California viewing area.

The Children's Cabinet

Since 1985, The Children’s Cabinet’s mission has been to keep children safe and families together by providing services and resources that address unmet needs through a unique and effective cooperative effort between the private sector and public agencies in Nevada. The Children's Cabinet has initiatives, programs, and resources for parents, youth, and businesses. From holding drive-by lessons on car seat installation, to food market pantries for at-risk youth, and early childhood development resources, Children’s Cabinet helps more than 11,000 families annually with a wide range of services.

Domestic Violence Resource Center

The Domestic Violence Resource Center (formerly Committee to Aid Abused Women) has been around for 45+ years. With access to our support groups, housing options and legal referrals, those who come to the Domestic Violence Resource Center for help are able to start rebuilding their lives immediately. It was the state’s very first provider of support and services for domestic violence victims and their children. This amazing organization has saved lives and provided a safe pathway for victims of domestic violence.

Parkinson Support Center

The Parkinson Support Center of Northern Nevada was founded in 2021, during the peak of the Covid19 pandemic, as a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing access to care, education, and social assistance to patients and families affected by Parkinson’s Disease in northern Nevada. Over 15,000 people in Nevada have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. The Parkinson Support Center connects patients and caregivers to resources, education, and research. The Parkinson Support Center of Northern Nevada is truly a local, community-based organization not affiliated with any national organization.
