SEASON 8 | EP 1

Back-Country Snow

Strap in for a winter adventure that goes far beyond the ski lift! Join host Chris Orr as he explores the diverse and thrilling world of Tahoe-area snow sports.

Snow-based fun and activities in and around the Tahoe area.

This episode is your guide to carving your own path through the winter wonderland. We’ll kick things off on the serene, groomed tracks maintained by the passionate nonprofit, Nevada Nordic, where cross-country skiing is an accessible joy for everyone.

Then, we shift gears into pure exhilaration with Lead Dog Athletics, who introduce us to the fast-paced sport of skijoring—where powerful dogs like Annie and Lucky become your engine on the snow. For a more contemplative pace, we’ll strap on snowshoes with the Truckee Donner Land Trust for a stunning trek through Johnson Canyon, where the views stretch toward Donner Summit and remind us of the region’s profound beauty.

Of course, every adventure requires a foundation of knowledge. We’ll get essential, life-saving wisdom from the Sierra Avalanche Center on how to understand and navigate the winter backcountry safely. Plus, we’ll hear from ski patroller and first responder Malea Jordan about her unique partnership with her dog, Ripp, in mountain rescue work.

It’s a packed episode celebrating the community, excitement, and respect that define a perfect Tahoe winter.
