I have the incredible honor to serve as faculty director of the League of American Orchestras’ Essentials of Orchestra Management program. This year it takes place July 22-31 at the Juilliard School. This 10-day bootcamp/thinktank/seminar covers all things orchestra management and is taught by experts from around the country. The 35 students in this year’s class, selected from a pool of some 80 applicants, are a remarkable assemblage of early to mid-career folks from orchestras big and small across the US and Canada. To showcase some of the amazing music from the faculty and students’ orchestras, I have assembled a summer listening sampler for you to enjoy at your leisure. Every orchestra performing the pieces and excerpts below are represented in this year’s cohort of Essentials students and faculty. Some of the performances are quite recent, some from a few years ago, but all showcase the fantastic music being made by American orchestras. I hope you enjoy it and explore these and other orchestras further.
